“A Place to Think, Write, and Grow”
For students who want to shape their mind, their voice, and their future.
I’m Dean, a writer, thinker, and educator.
I teach writing not as a task, but as a practice: a way to think more clearly, to question more deeply, and to speak with one’s own voice.
This is a space for those who seek more than answers, those who seek the discipline of reflection, the courage to question, and the craft of language.
We read. We think. We write. Through that work, we shape both our words and ourselves.

Discover Writing (G2–5)
A welcoming space where young writers build confidence, practice strong sentences, and discover the joy of expressing their own ideas through stories and fun exercises.
Grow the Emerging Writer (G6-8)
A space for students to develop academic, formal writing as reflection and self-expression, building fluency, structure, and confidence through guided practice.
Shape Your Voice (G9–12)
Deep reading of literature and the craft of essay writing as a way to think clearly, argue honestly, and speak in your own voice, with a focus on academic essays and history research papers.

What My Students Say
Dean helped me see writing as a way of thinking. Since working with him, I approach every subject and challenge more clearly and thoughtfully. I came to him at the last minute for college applications, and in just three months he helped me navigate the Common App and twelve supplemental essays without feeling overwhelmed.
Ryan (Emory)
My sessions with Dean were never just about essays. They were conversations that shaped how I think about ideas, arguments, and my own voice. I had a tutor before Dean from a more highly ranked school, but the fit was never right. Dean was different. He supported me both academically and personally, more like an older brother than a tutor.
Jun (USC)
Dean has taught Claire since third grade. Over the years, she has developed a genuine love for reading, and it now shows in how she thinks across every subject. Her confidence and logical reasoning have grown noticeably, largely through her sustained engagement with literature.

FAQs
General Questions
How do I begin studying with Dean?
If you feel aligned with my approach and would like to work together, I invite you to reach out through the contact form. We will begin with a conversation — to understand your goals, your interests, and how writing and thinking can become a meaningful part of your path.
Are lessons online or in person?
I work with students both online and in person. I have an office/classroom just a 2-minute walk from Zhishan Station, and many students also join from around the world via live video sessions. The format doesn’t matter as much as the depth and quality of our conversations — that’s where the real learning happens.
Lesson Content and Style
What makes Dean’s teaching method different from other writing tutors?
I don’t just correct grammar — I teach students how to think, structure arguments, and develop a unique voice. Every lesson is personalized and focused on long-term writing growth.
Do students read novels, articles, or academic texts in your classes?
Yes. Depending on the student’s level, we read everything from novels and essays to academic articles — always chosen to spark thought and improve writing.
Can you also help with test prep like the SAT, MAP, or school exams?
Absolutely. Many of my students prepare for the SAT, MAP Growth, AP, or school exams with me — especially in reading, writing, and critical thinking.
About Dean
Why does Dean believe in writing as a lifelong practice?
Because it is through writing that we clarify our thoughts, test our assumptions, and cultivate the discipline of expression. Long after school is over, the ability to think clearly and communicate with depth will remain one of your greatest assets — in any field, in any life.
We saw that Dean studied at Berkeley—could you share a bit more about that experience?
My years at Berkeley were formative. I studied political economy, philosophy, and history, completing far more coursework than required simply out of curiosity. I was shaped by the richness of that intellectual environment — and I aim to recreate a similar spirit of inquiry and rigor in my work with students today.
